Everyone’s A Critic!

Calling all Artists and Creators of all Skill Levels and Ages!
a. Everyone’s a Critic is an interactive art competition currently on display at the Skagit County Historical Museum and will remain on display until November 30th, 2025. All ages, skill levels, and mediums were encouraged to participate, and we received over 103 entries into the competition with a wide variety of mediums represented. The competition portion consists of 3 rounds of voting. The first round being from 6/20/2025-8/15/2025, the second round 8/18/2025 -10/4/2025, and the third round being from 10/6/2025-11/7/2025. The winners will be chosen by public vote which can be done in person at the museum or online through the link on our website. The museum will announce the final winners at our Fall fundraiser on November 15th at Maple Hall. Winners of the competition will be featured in our quarterly newsletter, our social media, have an option for their art to be preserved in the Museums Permanent artifact collection for future generations to enjoy, and will win a $50 gift card to a local art supply store.

Everyone’s a Critic Round One is Over and Round Two is Underway!

Thank you to everyone who voted in round 1!

We had 103 entries to choose from and over 475 people voted for their favorites to move on to round 2! Remember to continue to vote for your favorites each round to help decide the winners and for a chance to enter to win 4 free tickets to visit the museum! Remember only one vote per person, per age bracket, per round.

Thank You to All of The Participants!

As with any competition we understand this announcement is bittersweet and would like to thank you for putting your art out there to make this one of the funnest exhibits I have worked on! We would not have had such an amazing exhibit if it was not for all of the talented artists who participated.

Please remember that just because you are no longer in the competition does not mean your art will come off exhibit. Everyone will be displayed for maximum exposure and enjoyment until November 30th when the exhibit closes.

Those who moved on to the second round were chosen by the highest number of votes by the public. Please continue to vote for your favorites and help us choose the winners!

Here is the link to vote online in round 2 https://forms.gle/bMw8UJ7aE3EBPeTAA or visit the museum starting this Thursday 8/21/25 to begin voting in person.

For questions, please contact Lmoran@co.skagit.wa.us or head to the museum website!

Skagit County Historical Museum Photo Identification Project

Do you want to be a part of preserving and sharing history?

We have acquired thousands of images and need your help in identfying them.

The photos were taken by Bill Forman.  He apparently was a commercial photographer in Mount Vernon.  Dates on the envelopes range from the 1920s to the 1950s.  There is a wide range of subject matter – everything from insurance claim photos of dented cars, to Skagit County Fair royalty; weddings to exterior/interior photos of businesses; dance recitals to football games.  There are photos of car crashes, and even one of a woman with her pet fox!

So – we need your help!  We will be posting a set of photos each month. Our goal is to identify as many as possible, enter them into our Museum software, and have them accessible to the public.
