December 9, 2025 Skagit County Flood Update: Stay Informed and Prepare for Potential EvacuationsMajor flooding is expected in Skagit County from Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2025, through Friday evening, December 12, 2025. The river is forecasted to crest at 40.65 feet in Concrete around 10:00 a.m. on December 11 and at 36.91 feet in Mount Vernon at 4:00 a.m. on December 12. These predicted river levels are severe and near record flooding. Please be advised that the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Skagit County until further notice. As we anticipate another round of atmospheric moisture arriving tonight and into Wednesday, along with peak river levels, we encourage anyone living in low-lying, flood-prone areas to plan and prepare for potential evacuation. Please also consider making arrangements to evacuate your livestock and pets, if necessary. The communities most often affected by floodwaters include:
This list is not exhaustive, and we encourage anyone who has experienced flooding to monitor water levels in their neighborhood and be prepared to leave. If you believe you or your home is at risk or if you need extra time to evacuate, please leave sooner rather than later. The Skagit County Emergency Operations Center is working with American Red Cross to open a shelter in East County for those displaced by flood water. More information will be provided as soon as possible. Residents throughout Skagit County should also expect water over low-lying, flood-prone roadways. Remember to “turn around, don’t drown.” Follow all road closure and caution signs, and do not drive around barricades. Water can be deeper and move faster than anticipated, posing significant risks to drivers.
