Skagit Public Defenders announce launch of new text notification system, Uptrust
Today, the Skagit County Public Defender's office announced the launch of a text notification system, Uptrust. Uptrust is a texting service that helps remind public defender clients of upcoming court dates and attorney-client appointments. Uptrust is used in over 489 counties nationwide, including by the King County Department of Public Defense, the Spokane County Public Defender’s office and by Everett Law Associates in Snohomish County.
“When a defendant fails to appear in court, a cascade of costly events occur including issuance of a bench warrant, arrest, incarceration and additional court appearances,” said Keith Tyne, Director of the Skagit Public Defender’s office. “By enabling Uptrust, we will be better able to remind clients of their appointments- reducing costs and improving services for clients.”
Commissioner Ron Wesen said, “Anytime we can improve our criminal justice system to reduce costs and incarceration and better client services, it’s a good day. We congratulate Public Defenders and Information Services for enabling this new system.”
