Flood Warning Issued for Skagit County, Major Flood Expected

The U.S. National Weather Service has upgraded Skagit County near Concrete from a Flood Watch to a Flood Warning, effective from 10:15 p.m. Monday, December 8th, until further notice.

As of 5:00 a.m. this morning, December 9th, the Skagit River near Concrete is predicted to crest at 4:00 p.m. this evening at 32.62 feet. A second crest is predicted on the Skagit River in Concrete on Thursday, December 11th, at 10:00 a.m. at 36.98 feet. The Skagit River in Mount Vernon is predicted to crest at 32.04 feet on Wednesday, December 10th, at 4:00 a.m. and peak again at 36.34 feet on Friday, December 12th, at 10:00 a.m. All four crests are above the major flooding thresholds of 32.5 feet in Concrete and 32 feet in Mount Vernon.

The Skagit County Emergency Operations Center is working with partner agencies, along with the cities and towns, to survey the county and close roads impacted by flood waters. Please do not drive over flooded roadways and practice "turn around, don't drown." Follow all road closure and cautionary signs and do not drive around barricades. Water can be deeper and faster moving that anticipated, presenting significant risks to drivers.

Residents should monitor forecasts and be ready for additional weather alerts. Based on the current forecast, those living in flood prone areas should take action to protect their homes, families, and livestock from floodwaters.
