SKAGIT RIVER FLOOD WATCH
SKAGIT COUNTY – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Skagit County and much of western Washington. A flood watch means that conditions are favorable for flooding but flooding is not imminent or occurring in our area.
The latest river forecast from the Northwest River Forecast Center predicts the Skagit River will reach flood stage (28 feet on the gauge) in Concrete early Friday morning and crest over 30 feet on the Concrete gauge late Friday morning. The river will reach flood stage in Mount Vernon (28 feet on the gauge) Friday afternoon and crest at under 30 feet Friday night.
These predictions from the National Weather Service are subject to change at any time as new information becomes available. In addition to the Skagit River, smaller streams in Skagit County, including the Samish River, may also leave their banks. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to monitor weather and river forecasts and be prepared to take action to protect lives and property should flooding occur. Do not drive through flooded areas as roads under water may have suffered damage not visible from above.
Skagit County personnel will continue to monitor the weather and river forecasts. Skagit County maintains a flood hotline (360-419-3425) with river levels and predictions. The hotline is updated as new information becomes available.
