SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County mayors, county commissioners, tribal leaders, dike district commissioners and Hazard Mitigation Steering Committee members were on hand at the Department of Emergency Management offices on Thursday, September 18, to sign Skagit County’s Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. This plan is now required in order for local jurisdictions and agencies to receive pre or post disaster hazard mitigation grant monies from the federal government. Mark Watkinson, Coordinator for Skagit County Department of Emergency Management, recognized Charles Bennett, Dike District 12 Commissioner, Karla Strand, with Skagit County Department of Emergency Management, and Margaret Fleek, Burlington City Planner, for their contributions to the project. Also recognized were the three commissioners of Dike District 12, Bennett, Marvin Cannon, and Dan Lefeber, for their help in facilitating the process.
