2002 $275 million of new construction recorded in Skagit County in 2002 SKAGIT COUNTY - The Skagit County's Assessor's office mailed out 38,000 valuation notices to property owners throughout Skagit County this week. "Skagit County has experienced a record year in new construction with the total exceeding $275 million," said Assessor Mark Leander. "We've seen some upward pressure in real estate prices in parts of Skagit County, with values being relatively stable in the Mount Vernon area." Physical assessments, which are individual appraisals, were conducted in the Burlington-Edison and La Conner districts with statistical assessments being conducted in Anacortes and Sedro-Woolley, according to Leander. Physical assessments are conducted in each school district every four years. Leander encourages anyone with questions about their property valuation to call his office at 336-9370. He also stated that seniors over 61 years of age and people with disabilities with disposable incomes less than $30,000 annually may qualify for discounts on their property tax. Property owners have 30 days to challenge their valuation and present their case to the Board of Equalization. If you wish to file an appeal with the Board of Equalization you may contact Clerk Linda Ferrario at 336-9361 so a petition may be mailed to you. Or you can pick up a petition at the Board of Equalization Office, 700 South Second St., Room 101, Skagit County Administration Building, Mount Vernon,Washington. "We encourage anyone with any questions about the value of their property to contact us," said Leander. "Washington State Law requires that all property be assessed at 100% of fair market value.
