Assesor's Office Updates
Value Change Notices to be mailed this month
Notices of assessed value change will be mailed later this month to notify property owners of their 2016 assessment for taxes payable in 2017. Notices are mailed only if the assessed value changed from the prior year. The 2016 valuations have an effective date of value of January 1, 2016. To determine valuation updates, real estate market activity is researched using valid sales occurring between May 1, 2015 and April 30, 2016.
Owners who have questions about the updated value are encouraged contact our office at 360 416-1780 or assessor@co.skagit.wa.us for information on how their value was determined. Those who wish to dispute the new value may submit an appeal to the Board of Equalization by the October 31 deadline. Property owners that did not receive a value change notice will have the same assessment as in 2015 and may also appeal by October 31 if they disagree with the assessed value carried over.
La Conner and Conway property inspections to begin
The subject of the 2017 revaluation for assessment is the La Conner and Conway school districts. Appraisers from the Assessor’s Office will be inspecting all commercial, farm and residential properties in the two districts starting in September. With the exception of properties issued building permits in the six years since, the last inspections for this area occurred in 2011.
Inspections involve an exterior walk-around of structures and new photos are taken. Questions regarding interior features may be asked of residents present at the time of inspection. Appraisers are instructed to knock on the front door prior to their walk-around. They wear distinctive blue vests with Skagit County on the back and carry county identification cards. They drive white vehicles with the Skagit County emblem on the side. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Assessor’s Office at 360 416-1780.
