DEETS HIRED AS NEW COUNTY FARMLAND LEGACY PROGRAM DIRECTOR

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Farmland Legacy program has a new director. Allison Deets has replaced Rich Doenges, who left the position this spring to take a similar job in Pennsylvania. Deets will administer the Conservations Futures Program, established by the Skagit County Board of Commissioners in 1996, designed to preserve farmland and critical areas.

Deets was previously employed with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of American Farmland Trust, based in Culpeper, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College in Massachusetts where she completed course work in public policy analysis and economic development. She has served as a board member for Pennsylvania FarmLink, Inc., and on the Virginia Farmland Protection Task Force. Her family owns and operates a cattle farm in Whatcom County.

“I really wanted to come back here and I believe in the future of agriculture in the Skagit Valley,” said Deets. “I think that in this day and age, you have to be an advocate if you’re in agriculture.”

In addition to directing the Farmland Legacy program, Deets will also staff Skagit County’s new Agricultural Advisory Board. “It’s great to have someone with Deets’ background come on staff,” said Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt.

Deets was selected from a field of 55 applicants for the position and will be paid an annual salary of $48,922.
