The Salish Sea School to Host Fidalgo Bay Day 2026

Free community celebration returns Saturday, September 26

ANACORTES, Wash. — The Salish Sea School will host Fidalgo Bay Day 2026 on Saturday, September 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Samish Indian Nation’s Fidalgo Bay Resort, located at 4701 Fidalgo Bay Road in Anacortes.

The free, family-friendly event will begin with a welcoming ceremony at 11:00 a.m., followed by hands-on activities celebrating the beauty, history, wildlife, and ecological importance of Fidalgo Bay and local estuaries.

Visitors can participate in a beach-seining demonstration, help conduct a forage fish survey, and encounter live marine animals at Shannon Point Marine Center’s undersea zoo. The event will also feature children’s crafts, games, prizes, educational exhibits, and informational tables hosted by local government and nonprofit organizations working in marine science and conservation. Guests can learn about local projects, programs, and volunteer opportunities throughout the day.

Food will include a no-host traditional Coast Salish salmon barbecue lunch, along with free samples of grilled oysters from Taylor Shellfish and chowder from Adrift and Island Cafe.

The Salish Sea School is organizing this year’s event with guidance from the Skagit Marine Resources Committee. The event is made possible by volunteers and community partners, including generous sponsorships by HF Sinclair, the Port of Anacortes, Lautenbach Recycling, and Friends of the Salish Sea.

The Salish Sea School is an Anacortes-based nonprofit that connects people of all ages to the Salish Sea through hands-on marine science education, outdoor exploration, research, and conservation programs.
