OUTDOOR BURNING RESTRICTION

Due to the high fire danger and current wildfires in the western United States resources are at a very low level in our area. Weather patterns are to remain HOT and DRY for the next month.

Due to these conditions, outdoor burning restrictions for the unincorporated areas of Skagit County will go into effect Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at 12:00 Midnight. This burn restriction will be in effect until September 15, 2002, unless weather conditions allow otherwise.

No burning will be allowed, even with a written burning permit. The only exception to this burn restriction will be small campfires (2'x2' or smaller) that are in compliance with the burn restriction requirements set by the Skagit County Fire Marshal's office. These small campfires must be located in approved locations at an established campground. It is never legal to burn trash or garbage.

This decision has been made in cooperation with the Skagit County Board of Commissioners, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, local fire districts and Northwest Air Pollution Authority.
