Welcome to Skagit County
June 16, 2025 Guemes Island Ferry Remains out of ServiceThe Guemes Island ferry remains out of service due to a propulsion issue. Because the engines are new and under warranty, we have to call in authorized technicians to repair the engine before we can return to service. The technicians found the propulsion issue was related to an electrical component which is connected to the engine, and not the engine itself. The Coast Guard has cleared the vessel to return to service; however, the County is concerned that we have had two separate electrical issues connected to the engines that have shut down the ferry in the last few days. Before we re-enter service, we have requested an independent electrical engineer to inspect the engines and electrical components this afternoon to ensure there are no other problems that need to be addressed before we return to service. The vessel will remain at the Anacortes dock during the inspection and repairs, if necessary, and there will be no passenger service offered at this time. We estimate the ferry will be out most of the day today. There is a possibility that we could return to service later this evening if no issues are found during inspections. We will send out another update later this afternoon via the listserv and on Facebook. PREVIOUS MESSAGE 8:25am: The Guemes Island Ferry remains out of service.
