Skagit County upgrades online video system

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Information Services (IS) Department has addressed compatibility issues related to Skagit21 Television streaming video accessed by users of smart phones and other mobile devices.

Skagit21 Director Brian Young reports that a combination of upgraded video resolution and elimination of device compatibility issues represents the final piece of a comprehensive technology upgrade launched 18 months ago.

“We rolled out our website redesign in January,” noted Young, “and then an improved version of iMap, our custom interactive map feature. This week we completed a video streaming compatibility component that represents the last piece of the upgrade.”

Whether you are using mobile devices ranging from smart phone to tablet or iPad, the Skagit County website and Skagit21 Television offer many features at your fingertips.

“We are now streaming live at web standards compatible with all modern browsers and platforms,” said Young. “It’s pretty exciting to open the door for people to watch streaming video on the go, providing opportunities to observe public meetings and hearings as they unfold.”

In addition, noted Young, Skagit21 provides a word search engine to all archived videos. Upgrades were achieved in collaboration with Granicus, an international service provider that offers its clients the hardware capability to cover multiple users of technology services such as those provided on Skagit21 Television.
