Hayley Thompson sworn in as new County Coroner
Hayley Thompson was sworn in today, May 16, by Judge Dave Needy as the new Skagit County Coroner.
The Skagit County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve the resolution appointing Thompson as County Coroner on Monday, May 9.
“I’m excited to welcome Hayley to Skagit County,” said Commission Chair Lisa Janicki. “The hiring committee was impressed by her experience working with diverse populations and her commitment to developing new public outreach opportunities within our community. We expect her to be a great asset to the county.”
The Commissioners’ appointed Thompson to replace former Coroner Daniel Dempsey, who retired in March. Thompson’s appointment only lasts through the end of the year; she must file and run for reelection in November to serve out the final two years of the Corner’s four-year term.
Thompson holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, both from the University of Wyoming. She is also a board-certified fellow of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators and member of the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. She previously worked for the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, Office of the Medical Examiner in Phoenix, Arizona, and Fremont County Coroner’s Office in Riverton, Wyoming.
