County media release regarding May 13-15 event by activists
SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County Department of Emergency Management (DEM) today informed residents to be prepared for possible impact to road and water transportation in the March’s Point area during a May 13-15 planned protest.
An environmental activist organization has announced plans to “rally against fossil fuels” over the three-day period in the March’s Point area where two refineries are located. The number of protestors is estimated in excess of one thousand.
Skagit DEM is working with local, state and federal agencies to ensure a safe event. Participating agencies include local law enforcement, state agencies and federal organizations including the U.S. Coast Guard.
“We want Skagit County residents to be mindful of the likely increase in area traffic, both on local highways and waters near Anacortes,” said DEM Director Mark Anderson. “We will work with appropriate agencies and affected industry to safely accommodate this event.”
