Concrete Sauk Valley Road at Milepost 3.7 Closed Indefinitely

The County Engineer for Skagit County has closed Concrete Sauk Valley Road at milepost 3.7 indefinitely due to additional erosion from the riverbank encroaching on the roadway. The flooding events over the previous week have caused additional damage, leading the County Engineer to close the roadway because of potential safety impacts for drivers. Public Works staff will be evaluating the road this week to consider if a one-lane opening would be feasible with the new riverbank damage.

Since 2001, the Skagit River has migrated over 1,200 feet northward along, and parallel to, Concrete Sauk Valley Road. This channel migration has resulted in the erosion of a high riverbank that is encroaching into the road prism. In 2023, Public Works completed a project to shift the driving lanes of Concrete Sauk Valley Road to move traffic away from the eroding riverbank and the County has been applying for grant funds for years to support a more permanent fix to stabilize the area.
