Welcome to Skagit County
March 23, 2026 Marblemount Public Meeting Scheduled for April 2ndThe Skagit County Public Works Department has scheduled a public meeting for April 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Marblemount Community Hall, 60155 State Route 20, Marblemount, WA. Public Works staff will present on the upcoming Marblemount Bridge rehabilitation project, and the impacts of bridge closures this summer on nearby residents. We encourage the community to join us to stay informed and to have the opportunity to ask questions directly of Public Works staff managing the project. Public Works has planned this public meeting because the impacts of the upcoming Marblemount Bridge closures are anticipated to be much more significant due to the closure on Rockport Cascade Road. A nearby bridge over Jordan Creek on Rockport Cascade Road was washed out during the December 2025 floods and remains closed to traffic. Rockport Cascade Road is essential to the detour route required for the Marblemount Bridge rehabilitation project, which started last summer. The project was intended to span two construction seasons in 2025 and 2026, and the original construction sequencing plans allowed the contractor to close the bridge for a period of time during both seasons. If Rockport Cascade Road remains closed due to the bridge washout, then the long duration closures of the Marblemount Bridge will be delayed until such a time when the crossing over Jordan Creek has been restored. In order to avoid closing public access to the community, Public Works planned earlier this year to lease a temporary bridge for Rockport Cascade Road to ensure there would be an open detour route when the Marblemount Bridge is closed this summer; however, the updated cost estimates for a temporary bridge are well over $2,000,000. Public Works is now seeking to build a permanent fix for Jordan Creek, if funding can be secured, but this will not be completed before the Marblemount Bridge intermittent closures are scheduled to occur. Public Works is discussing options with the Marblemount Bridge contractor and will be coordinating with local first responders to explore our best options to finish the Marblemount Bridge project while ensuring emergency services can still access the area. Staff will present these options to the community during the upcoming public meeting. Any questions regarding the upcoming public meeting can be emailed to Jenn Rogers, Communications Manager, at jrogers@co.skagit.wa.us Marblemount Bridge Project Background Last spring, Skagit County Public Works contracted with Stellar J Corporation to complete a repair and maintenance overhaul project for the Marblemount Bridge. The bridge is over 90 years old and is currently under a weight restriction and limited to one lane traffic. The bridge has a failing paint system, corrosion to truss elements and gusset plates, pack rust in many connections in the steel floor system, missing fasteners, leaking joints, and delaminated patches in the bridge deck. The maintenance project will extend the life of the bridge, return the structure to two lane traffic, and remove the load posting, while preserving its historical importance in the area. The $18.5M project was fully funded through the 2022 Federal Highway Administration Local Bridge Program Selection, allocated through the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Local Programs office. The program funds bridge rehabilitation projects that are not under the federal aid system. Estimated completion of the project is no later than the summer of 2027.
