Living With The Coast:  Free Landowner Workshop about Shorelines & Erosion – Saturday, March 14

Learn how you can protect and maintain your shoreline property and its value. Shoreline landowners are invited to attend a FREE workshop on coastal process and erosion management on Saturday, March 14, 2015, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Fidalgo Bay RV Resort in Anacortes. Workshop topics include:

  • Erosion management
  • Armor removal and soft shore protection options
  • Enhancing property values
  • Native vegetation for slope stability & habitat

Who should attend? This workshop is for you if you:

  • Live on a bluff, are concerned about erosion, drainage, or vegetation issues and want to find ways to reduce impacts to your property.
  • Have a broad beach or low bank and want tips on how to protect your property while promoting healthy marine ecosystems.
  • Are considering removing or repairing hard armoring on your shoreline.

The workshop includes a 2-hour classroom presentation and a beach walk/field trip near the Fidalgo Bay RV Resort at Weaverling Spit. Please bring a lunch as well as clothing and shoes appropriate for a beach walk.

Can’t attend the workshop? A limited number of free site visits by coastal erosion specialists are also being offered to qualifying landowners. During the site visit, you will be provided with specific management recommendations for your shoreline properties.

This outreach effort is sponsored by the Northwest Straits Commission, Skagit County Marine Resources Committee and the Northwest Straits Foundation. Funding is provided by the Puget Sound Partnership, US Environmental Protection Agency, WA Departments of Fish and Wildlife and Natural Resources and Nearshore Grant program.
