Skagit County to Host Community Meeting and Concrete Community Center Open House Event

On Tuesday, March 3rd, at 4:00 p.m., Skagit County will host an open house event at the Concrete Community Center to celebrate the newly finished renovations and expansion work. Immediately following the open house, the County Commissioners will host a community meeting from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. to provide updates on County projects and offer the opportunity for residents to ask questions or provide feedback to the Commissioners.

Skagit County Public Health received a $1,000,000 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund the renovations and purchase of a new generator at the Concrete Community Center. After closing for construction May 15, 2025, the Center reopened to the public on January 20, 2026. The renovations include an improved HVAC system, a new emergency generator and walk-in refrigerator/freezer unit, upgrades for the existing kitchen, and remodeled A.D.A. compliant restrooms. These improvements also prepare the Center to serve as an emergency shelter during floods, extreme weather events, or other disasters.

The Concrete Community Center, owned by Skagit County and operated by Community Action of Skagit County, provides meals to residents of all ages and ensures access to county services for east county residents, including assessor information and payments, voter and election information, food handler permits, and meetings with county commissioners.
