Guemes Island Subarea
Plan public hearing scheduled
August 10 at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, August 10, the
Skagit County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing regarding the proposed
Guemes Island Subarea Plan. The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Skagit
County Administrative Building located at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon,
Washington. A late ferry will be available for those islanders attending the
public hearing.
The Subarea Plan includes seven elements, including land use, natural resource
conservation, environmental protection, shorelines, transportation (including
the Guemes Island Ferry) and plan implementation. The proposed Subarea Plan
proposes several policies aimed at mitigating the impacts of growth on the island's
rural character and groundwater resources. In addition, the plan seeks to re-designate/re-zone
approximately 222 acres on SE Guemes Island from Rural Intermediate, with an
allowable maximum density of 1 unit per 2.5 acres, to Rural Reserve with an
allowable maximum density of 1 unit per 10 acres.
Skagit County invites the
public to attend the public hearing to voice any views for or against the proposal.
Copies of the proposed Subarea Plan have been available since July 23, 2010.
Copies are available at www.skagitcounty.net or at Skagit County Planning and
Development Services located in the Administrative Building.
