We, the Food Policy Council (FPC), are representatives from across the Skagit County food system, working to bring people and organizations together, identify available resources, and inspire action by community leaders and institutions to create a food system that nourishes us all. We believe that everyone in our community should have access to healthy, local food.
The Food Policy Council exists to increase food access for all! |
What is food insecurity?
Food insecurity is when people can't access the food they need to live their fullest lives. People experiencing food insecurity don’t have enough to eat and often don’t know where their next meal will come from. Unfortunately, about 11% of adults and 16% of kids in our community experience some level of food insecurity. We know that access to nutritious food is vital to our physical and mental health. Given this important link, food security was identified as a priority health issue by the Population Health Trust during the 2020-2021 Community Health Assessment (CHA).

Our Vision: Skagit County has a resilient local food system that provides equitable access to nutritious, sustainable, and culturally appropriate food for all.
Our Work: A Food Security Plan, created though a community-engaged process, outlines a series of goals, strategies, and actions to advance our vision for Skagit. The plan was also guided a Food Security Data Report.
|
|
Our Purpose: Coordinate food system leaders to advance a common plan developed to increase food access and strengthen the local food system.
Get Involved: If you are interested in learning more about the FPC and/or ways to increase food access in Skagit, contact Kas at kchurch@co.skagit.wa.us or (360) 416-2016. |
