Promoting Healthy Starts for All Skagit County Children
The first 1000 days of life, from pregnancy to a child’s 2nd birthday, set the foundation for lifelong health. Healthy behaviors, environments and relationships are keys to lifelong health and well-being.
The Child & Family Health Division works with individuals, families and the community to assure that all Skagit County children have the healthiest possible start in life, with particular emphasis on pregnant women, infants and toddlers. Our services are offered at no charge to families. Some of our services have specific eligibility requirements, others are available to all Skagit County families.
Services for Pregnant Women/Expectant Families
Pregnancy is a critical time for the developing child. Public Health works in partnership with others in our community to assure that pregnant women get early prenatal care and find the information and support they need to have healthy babies. Public Health also works to help prepare new moms and dads for a successful parenting experience.
Services for Families with Infants, Toddlers or Preschoolers
The first few years of life lay the foundation for future health and success. Science has demonstrated how a child's health and early experiences are connected to later health, educational success, criminal behavior (or the absence thereof) and overall life course. Public Health works in partnership with others in our community to assure that families and caregivers of infants and toddlers get the information and support and linkage to resources they need to get a healthy start in life.
Services for Families of Children with Special Health Care Needs
Families of children with special needs can face many challenges in getting the services they need to address their child's needs. Child & Family Health staff are available to assist families with information and connections to services that will help support their children’s health, development and well-being. Contact us at 360-416-1523 for more information.
