The 2020 Census marks the 24th time that the county has counted its population since 1790. Everyone counts, regardless of citizenship status. Answers are confidential and will not be shared with other government agencies. |

The Census provides a snapshot of our nation. Data is used to determine the allocation of Federal Funding that help support our schools, veterans, senior citizens, hospitals, fire departments, roads, bridges, and other resources like Medicaid, Student Loans, Housing Loans, the National School Lunch Program, Head Start, and WIC. Also, the results of the census determines our representation in Congress.
The Census can be completed by mail, online, or by phone. Each home will receive an invitation in the mail between March 12 – 20.

Count everyone under your roof as of April 1, 2020. This includes any friends or family members who are living and sleeping there most of the time and anyone renting space in your home.
Everyone counts, regardless of citizenship status.
Starting in May 2020, homes that have not responded to the census will receive a visit by a community member to answer your questions and help with the questionnaire.

The Census Bureau is bound by law to keep answers confidential. Employees take an oath to protect information.
The Census Bureau will NOT share your responses with any court or other government agency, including the FBI, ICE or the Department of Homeland Security. The Census does NOT ask about citizenship status.
Guard yourself from fraud. The Census Bureau will NEVER: email you, ask for your full Social Security Number, your mother’s maiden name, your bank or credit card account numbers, money, or to come into your home.

THE 2020 CENSUS IS COMING! |
Do you like driving on well-maintained roads? Do you like that our nation supports veterans, senior citizens, children and our at-risk neighbors? Were you or your children lucky enough to participate in the Head Start Program to earn free college credits while still in high school? Do you appreciate the work performed by your local fire department and hospital district?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you have an opportunity to continue your support by participating in the 2020 Census! You count. Be counted.
The purpose of the census is to gather data that determines the level of funding our community receives for programs that support our residents and determines our congressional representation. We are urging all Skagit County employees to be sure to participate in the United States Census. Please familiarize yourself with the attached documents and help spread the word!
You can expect to receive an invitation in the mail to complete the Census between March 12-20. You will be able to complete the Census online, by mail, or by telephone. It takes just 10 minutes to answer 10 questions that will help shape our community over the next 10 years.
