Marine Recovery Comment Period Extended
At the Marine Recovery Area Public Hearing held August 19, 2008 at the Commissioner’s Hearing Room the Board of Health extended the comment period to 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2008.

West Nile Virus has been found in a sampling of mosquitoes collected July 7 from a site south of Grandview near the Benton-Yakima County border. The Health Department still recommends taking personal precautions.(more)


ARSENIC INFORMATION
Most arsenic in drinking water comes from natural rock formations. As water flows through these formations, it can dissolve arsenic and carry it into underground aquifers, streams or rivers that may be used as drinking water supplies. (more on the Drinking Water Web Site)


Summer Shellfish Safety:
Spring and summer are prime time for recreational harvesting of clams, oysters and other shellfish.  It can also be a prime time for increased risk of contamination from bacteria such as Vibrio, which thrive in warmer conditions. (more)

Skagit County Board of Health Amends Skagit County Code 12.05, On-site Sewage Systems and adopts the Skagit County On Site Sewage Management Plan
The on-site sewage code, SCC 12.05, was revised to coincide with a recently adopted State code, WAC 246-272A.(more)

Or inside your house? Bat activity naturally increases this time of year. Bat activity naturally increases in the summer and fall. Approximately 5-10% of bats in our area carry the rabies virus, which is almost always fatal.
If you find a bat in your house, or you have been directly exposed (e.g. handling), or your pet has found a bat, please take the following steps:
