County District Court is a court of Limited Jurisdiction. It is
the court that handles traffic infractions, misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors,
civil claims up to $75,000, small claims and name changes.
Claims and infractions cited WITHIN a city's limits are handled by that
individual city's municipal court.

Skagit
County Superior Court is the court
of General Jurisdiction. It is the trial court for all felonies and civil
suits involving amounts in excess of $75,000. Superior Court also has
jurisdiction in adoption, probate, competency, all domestic matters and
juvenile cases. In addition, Superior Court hears appeals from District
Court decisions and other administrative hearing decisions.
The Skagit
County Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining the documents
and records of all superior court cases. The Clerk's Office is the administrative
and financial arm of Superior Court.

Paternity, Involuntary Commitment, Dependency, Truancy, CHINS and At-Risk

and Terms below:
Monday
-Trial Assignment
(no appearance necessary) 9:30 am
All non-Criminal cases that are going to trial have an event called
"Trial Assignment" to establish the Trial Date. No appearance
is necessary.
-Pro-Se Domestic Calendar (Divorce and parenting issues
with no attorneys) 9:30 am
Pro-Se means you are acting as your own attorney.
The types of
cases included in the Domestic calendar are:
- Marriage dissolutions (divorce)
- Parenting plans
- Spousal support (alimony)
- Custody
- Non-parental custody
- Restraining orders
The type of
hearings will include:
- General motions (asking the court to order something)
- Uncontested final decrees (a written understanding of what both
parties agree to)
If Monday is
a holiday, this will be moved to Tuesday at 9:30.
Tuesday
-Juvenile
Offender Calendar (misc. juvenile offender hearings) 9:30
am
Hearings relating to a juvenile offender court case. These are cases
where a juvenile is charged with a criminal offense. This does NOT
include Truancy, CHINS or At Risk cases.
The types
of hearings may include the following: arraignment, omnibus, probation
violation, change of plea, disposition (sentencing).
In weeks
with a holiday on Monday or Tuesday, this will be moved to Wednesday
at 9:30.
-Family
Support Calendar 2:30 pm
Child support contempt and review hearings filed by Skagit County
Prosecutors' Family Support Office. Hearings
to review the status of Child Support court orders and contempt. A
contempt hearing will determine if the party has not been following
a previous court order.
Wednesday
-Criminal Motions
Calendar (restitution, 3.5 and 3.6 hearings) 9:30 am
Motions relating to an adult criminal case. The type of hearings may
include:
3.5 hearings (if a statement of guilt can be used at trial)
3.6 hearings (what evidence can be used at trial)
Other pretrial hearings
Restitution hearings
Criminal expedited
Trial Calendar (every other week). 9:30 am.
Hearings related
to an adult criminal court case for individuals that are participating
in the Expedited Court case program.
-Domestic
Violence Calendar 1:30 pm
Hearings to acquire a one year Protection Order. When you apply for
a temporary (two week) protection order, you will be informed of what
date this hearing will be held for your case.
Thursday
-Criminal
Calendar (in-custody criminal hearings including probation
violations heard in the District Court courtroom) 9:30 am
Hearings related to an adult criminal court case for individuals that
are in jail. The type of hearings may include the following: arraignment,
omnibus, change of plea, sentencing.
Friday
-Criminal
Calendar (out of custody criminal hearing including probation
violations) 9:30 am
Hearings related to an adult criminal court case for individuals that
are not in jail. The type of hearings can include the following: arraignment,
omnibus, probation violations, change of plea, sentencing.
-Probate/Civil/Domestic
Motion Calendar (with attorneys) 9:00 am & 9:30 am
Includes all motion hearings for the cases not specifically addressed
in one of the other calendars. This includes (but not limited to):
Probate (wills, estates, guardianships)
Adoption
Approval of Minor Claim Settlements
Domestic motions with Attorneys (parenting plans, divorce, child support,
alimony, uncontested final decrees)
Minor Emancipations
All other civil cases
