County accepting proposals to build, operate affordable veterans’ housing

Affordable housing for local veterans is getting a boost thanks to a $500,000 grant from Skagit County.

The county and city of Burlington released a Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking qualified developer-operator partners who can finance, develop, build and run an affordable housing project for veterans. Through the RFP, the County will provide $500,000 in grant or forgivable loan capital funding and Burlington will provide siting and permitting support. The American Legion Memorial Post 91, at 721 E. Fairhaven Avenue, has offered its site as a location for this project – but use of the site is not mandatory.

Letters of interest are due by 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22.

Complete proposals are due no later than 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, and should be emailed to kaylasb@co.skagit.wa.us or submitted in person/by mail to
