New directors hired for Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management Department
The Skagit County Board of Commissioners recently announced the selection of new directors to lead the county’s Emergency Medical Services department and Emergency Management Department.
Jeffery A. Sargent, Skagit County’s new Director of Emergency Medical Services, will start Monday, Sept. 25. He has extensive experience in emergency services, with a background in executive management for both EMS agencies and Fire Districts.
In his most recent position, Sargent served as Director of the Mountain Vista Fire Department in Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Sargent has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Douglas J. ten Hoopen, Skagit County’s new Director of Emergency Management, will start Monday, Oct. 2. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the intelligence, diplomatic and emergency services communities. He most recently served as a Diplomat and Department of Defense Attaché in Madrid, Spain.
In addition to his professional experience, ten Hoopen has served as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician in nine different departments since 1982. He has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the U. S. Naval Academy and a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
