Burlington Northern Overpass closes Monday, May 1, for 18 months
If your standard Monday morning commute takes you on the Old Highway 99 Burlington Northern Overpass, you’ll want to take note: The overpass will close Monday, May 1, for up to 18 months.
Skagit County Public Works and its contractor crews begin demolition of the 1936-era structure May 1. During the demolition and construction work, Old Highway 99 will be closed just north of Cook Road. Business access will remain open. Drivers can use a signed detour on I-5 and Bow Hill Road to avoid the construction area.
“Monday is right around the corner, so we’re asking drivers who typically commute on Old 99 to plan ahead,” said Public Works Director Dan Berentson. “We expect drivers to test out different commute times and alternative routes for the first several weeks, so we recommend planning some extra time into your drive.”
