As a reminder,
the peak season for the Guemes Island Ferry will be in effect
from May 20, 2012 to September 30, 2012. Peak season fares
and schedules are available at www.skagitcounty.net/ferry,
or at the Anacortes terminal. As we enter into this years
busy season, here are a few reminders that will help make
your ferry passage safe and enjoyable:
Two
parking lots are available for ferry users. Both parking
lots are well-lit, monitored by security cameras and are
a short distance from the ferry terminal building. The larger
lot is located at the corner of 6th Street and K Avenue
and offers 72 hour parking; from the northwest corner of
this lot there is a pathway to the main terminal area. A
smaller parking lot offers 24-hour parking and is located
within the terminal area to the east of the ferry holding
lane;
Consider
purchasing a punch card so that your boarding process will
be streamlined; the 10-trip convenience vehicle and driver
punch card will be available May 20, 2012;
Please
remember that both foot and vehicle traffic increases substantially
starting Memorial Day weekend; therefore, please be sure to
be aware of your surroundings at all times;
Be sure
to give yourself plenty of time to catch your desired sailing;
it is recommended that you arrive in line 30-45 minutes prior
to the scheduled sailing time;
If you
are walking, please use designated cross walks at the ferry
terminals and remember that although the weather will be nicer
during the day, things can still be slick at times. Please
watch your step when boarding and disembarking the ferry;
At the
Guemes Island terminal, please wait at the very top of the
ramp until all passengers have disembarked. Many people will
have wheelbarrows, strollers, dogs, etc. and the extra space
on the walkway is appreciated;
If you
are on a bicycle, we ask that you walk your bicycle down the
walkway; riding it down the grated ramp is very dangerous;
If you
are traveling in a large group it is extremely helpful if
everyone knows the fares and, if possible, pool the cash
so that only one transaction for everyone will be necessary.
If you are planning an event on Guemes Island and/or know
you will have a large group traveling to Guemes, please
give the ferry terminal a call at (360) 293-6433 so that
our staff can answer questions and assist in the planning;
Most
importantly, please follow the directions of the crew members
at all times; and remember, we are here to help in any way
we can.

May
18, 2012: Punch
Card Information for the Peak Season
It
has come to our attention that some folks may be confused about
punch cards as we enter the peak season. Hopefully this
information will help answer questions regarding ferry punch
card purchases. The 20 trip vehicle and driver and motorcycle
punch cards are sold at the same price year round. They
can be purchased any time and can be used during the peak season
or the non-peak season, provided they have not expired (they
are valid for 3 months from the purchase date). The 25
trip walk-on punch cards are also sold at the same price year
round. They can be purchased any time and they can be
used anytime, provided they have not expired (they are valid
for one year from the purchase date). In summary, nothing
has changed in regards to 20 and 25 trip punch cards.
What
has changed is that we will now sell 10-trip vehicle and driver
and 10-trip vehicle and senior/disabled driver convenience punch
cards. Having one of these provides you the convenience
of not having to carry cash every time you ride the ferry.
The peak 10-trip punch cards will be available for sale from
May 20th through September 30th, 2012. The peak cost for
a 10-trip vehicle and driver punch card will be $100.00 and
a 10-trip vehicle and senior/disabled driver will cost $90.00.
Peak season 10-trip cards may be used during the non-peak
season; however, this is not advised due to price differences.
This punch card does not carry an expiration date; except that
it will expire upon the next general fare increase. At
this time, a general fare increase is not anticipated; Skagit
County will make every effort to provide advance notice of fare
increases.

be no double or 2nd 11:15 a.m. sailing. Maintenance may need
to occur on other days as well; however, ferry staff will make
every effort to schedule maintenance so that a double can still
occur on the 11:15 a.m. sailing. Download

The Guemes
Tax Levy Report
Recently, Skagit County Public Works held a Ferry Operations
Public Forum meeting on Guemes Island. A question was asked
at that meeting about the proportion of Guemes Island's property
taxes that go into Public Works' road fund and, by extension,
contribute to the County's 35% responsibility for operational
expenses. The Guemes Tax Levy Report was prepared by Public
Works in response to this question. We hope the Guemes Island
Community will find the information useful.
